Leah and Ash reveal the toxic politics behind this year’s dramatic season of The Block

The Block’s Leah and Ash have spoken out about their controversial friendship with this season’s ‘villains’ Kristy and Brett.

Speaking to News.com on Friday, the couple appeared to distance themselves from the couple and the toxic behaviour fans have found so distressing in the 2023 series so far.

‘Kristy and I only had The Block as our talking point – we don’t know each other’s lives – so our conversation was so much about The Block,’ Leah said.

‘First it was jokes here and there, but as the weeks went on, I thought it was getting a bit snarky.’

Leah’s comments come hot the heels of her ‘meltdown’ on Wednesday’s episode, when fans online accused her of being ‘fake’.

Sparks flew after a night out went wrong with Leah supposedly snubbing former buddy Kristy in favour of fellow Blockheads Eliza and Liberty.

Revealing that she and Ash ‘really liked’ Eliza and Liberty, Leah said things came to a head after Kristy and Brett started in on a conspiracy theory that accused the sisters of being ‘planted’ by Channel Nine – and given special treatment.

Saying that things had gone too far, Leah added:  ‘It was time to step back and look at what role we’d played in all this.’

Even so,  the couple have expressed disappointment about how their relationship with the sisters is panning out this season.

‘You know what I was shocked about?,’ Leah said.

‘How much the girls would talk about us behind our backs. We didn’t expect that – we were very close with the girls, we went to their house most nights, they FaceTimed our kids … I was a little bit shocked at that one.’

It comes after The Block viewers have accused Leah of having a ‘fake’ meltdown this week.

The drama kicked off when Kristy noticed Leah was missing from a planned night club visit after she requested their favourite song.

Kristy then confronted Leah for hanging out with Eliza and Liberty instead of joining her at the club.

Following the incident, Leah broke down as she told her husband Ash: ‘Both of them have been saying things that have gone way too far, and you and me have laughed about it. We should be calling it out. Not saying something actually speaks louder.’

‘Leah’s tears just don’t phase me. She keeps saying how she and Ash are guilty by association, but no girlfriend you are guilty because you participated,’ one person Tweeted.

‘Leah you were still making comments going up the steps leaving the kitchen reveal. No one believes your little facade #TheBlock,’ another wrote.

‘How can Leah be so nice suddenly, from being that nasty to Steph. She’s so false!! #TheBlock,’ a third commented.
