Leah Remini and Angelo Pagan divorce: Split pair ask court to scuttle spousal support for one another after ending 21-year marriage

The ongoing divorce between actress Leah Remini and businessman Angelo Pagán continues to progress through the legal system, with both parties asking the court to eliminate spousal support going either way.

Pagán, 56, filed a legal response in his split with the Emmy-winner, 54, People reported Thursday after reviewing docs in the case, which Remini filed August 29.

Pagán listed the estranged pair’s separation date as August 1, which Remini also had in her court docs, as well as the reason behind the split being ‘irreconcilable differences,’ the outlet reported.

Remini, who played the role of Carrie Heffernan on The King of Queens from 1998–2007, and Pagán issued a joint statement via Instagram confirming that their marriage had ended.

‘Well, here we are,’ Remini and Pagán said in the August 29 statement. ‘After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce.

‘This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us.’

Remini and Pagán said they were experiencing a flurry of different emotions in announcing their split.

‘We are proud of how we have worked through this together,’ they said. ‘Yes, we’re sad, and we’ve got some figuring out to do as we continue to move forward into our new normal – together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones.’

They said that they had ‘both changed, as people do,’ and ‘got used to playing roles that didn’t fit us anymore.’

Remini and Pagán said their ‘bond is still strong’ but ‘it’s just evolved into something different,’ adding that their ‘marriage was a huge success.’

The estranged pair, who initially crossed paths in 1996 and wed seven years later, cited their past projects together in their statement.

‘We want to be as transparent as we can be here because, for years, we shared our marriage so publicly, whether it was on our specials on VH1 or our reality show, which ran for two seasons on TLC,’ Remini and Pagán said. 

They added, ‘We are sharing this unknown territory with you all as we take our first steps into this next stage of our lives publicly.’

Remini and Pagán are parents to daughter Sofia Bella, 20, while he’s father to three sons, Angelo Jr., Alex and Nico, from a prior relationship.

Remini in 2019 chat with RuPaul about the relationship, saying that they had difficult times earlier on.

‘It’s a beautiful love story because we did have a hard time at the beginning,’ the Kevin Can Wait actress said. ‘We didn’t meet under the best of circumstances.

‘We got counseling and it was not an easy road. So I’m saying these things to be funny, once again, but the truth of the matter is he is my rock.’
