LeAnn Rimes using her time on The Voice Australia as ‘a dress rehearsal’ for UK version of the show

An insider has revealed that LeAnn Rimes appeared on The Voice Australia as a ‘dress rehearsal’ ahead of her debut on the UK version of the series.

A source told Daily Mail Australia on Monday the US performer, 42, wanted to learn the ‘do’s and don’t’s’ of the Aussie reality hit because it was ‘family friendly’.

Meanwhile, the UK iteration of the singing competition tends to be ‘more stressful’ and ‘edgy’ with a larger focus on conflict.

LeAnn made her debut on The Voice this year alongside Guy Sebastian and two other coaches, fellow American Adam Lambert and Kate Miller-Heidke.

The idea of being a coach in any country intimidated LeAnn a lot, and she said ‘yes’ with ‘a great deal of trepidation [to both shows],’ claims the source.

‘LeAnn really used the opportunity to be on the Australian format of The Voice as a dress rehearsal because she was preparing for her appearance on The Voice UK.

‘The Australia version did feel like a great space to gain some confidence before the more competitive format of the UK,’ the insider said.

The UK version kicked off its current season over the weekend with LeAnn, McFly’s Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones joining Tom Jones and Will.i.iam as coaches.

Explaining that it was a ‘different beast’ to The Voice filmed Down Under, the insider described it as ‘the nightclub’ version of the format and not as ‘family friendly’.

The insider continued: ‘There is a knack to being a good coach but there is also a knack to ruining your career. LeAnn was told this by her industry friends who warned her to be careful.

‘LeAnn was capturing the best ways to pitch. That was a real focus point. Allowing more time to sit back and take in what works and what doesn’t.’

Fans in the UK will likely see a ‘different’ LeAnn to the one viewers Down Under know, they said.

The source also claimed that it was Guy Sebastian who gave LeAnn ‘inspiration’ and was ‘generous’ with his knowledge.

‘There were some do’s and what not to do’s,’ they continued.

One thing Leann learned, claims the source, was not to take things too ‘personally’.

‘The Australian experience is fantastic stomping grounds and the door is 100% open for her to return next year,’ they added.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to LeAnn’s management for comment.

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, LeAnn first shot to fame in the late 1990s for being the youngest person to ever win a Grammy Award at the age of 14.

She found a new audience for her work on the soundtrack for the 2000 hit movie Coyote Ugly.

LeAnn’s single from the album, Can’t Fight The Moonlight, was wildly popular at the time, selling over two million copies worldwide and reaching the top of the charts in Australia, as well as becoming the country’s biggest-selling single of 2001.
