LeBron James took a not-so-subtle swipe at rapper Kevin Gates on Monday after the artist said he ‘don’t like the way’ the Lakers star’s wife, Savannah, looks at James.

In the initial video from Gates posted over the weekend, the rapper said ‘white women’ look at James in more awe than his wife of nearly 12 years. Gates also said Savannah acted like her husband was ‘bothering her’ during a pregame handshake, in an apparent reference to a 2023 video.

Gates went on to call Savannah ‘the warden of the jail’ while saying James’ spirit was so ‘loving and giving.’

‘I know a lot of people are going to hate what I just said but I’m just gonna be honest… I love LeBron and I hate that for him,’ he added.

James did not address Gates by name, though it was fairly obvious who he was referring to when he posted a photo of him and Savannah looking longingly into each other’s eyes on Instagram.

‘Kings don’t concern themselves with the opinions of peasants. Where to next Queen?!?! Let’s get it!,’ he wrote along with a black queen emoji and a heart.

Gates, who said in his original video that Savannah was not ‘d***ed out’ for James like white women were,  did not walk back his remarks in a subsequent video.

While riding in the car with his girlfriend, Brittany Renner, Gates said: ‘The truth hurts but it heals and Bron I love you.’

In the caption for the video, he added: ‘@kingjames, I’m way less than a peasant, i’m a simple servant of #Allah and I love you.’

James and Savannah, who share three children together, have known each other since their high school days in Ohio, when James played for St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron.

They share children LeBron ‘Bronny’ Jr., 20, Bryce 17, and Zhuri, 10.

Both of the couple’s sons have followed their father into basketball, as Bronny joined his dad on the Lakers last year as a second-round NBA Draft pick.

Bronny played sparingly throughout 27 regular season contests as he split his time between the NBA and G League.

Bryce, meanwhile, has committed to play at the University of Arizona later this year.

While James and Savannah were all smiles in the photo he posted following Gates’ initial remarks, the Lakers opened their postseason in brutal fashion as they were blown out by the Timberwolves at home.

Minnesota handily won 117-95 as James scored 19 points on 18 shots.

The Lakers will look to even the series in Game 2 on Tuesday night.
