Daniel Farke has dropped Illan Meslier for Leeds’ Championship clash against Luton on Saturday, with Karl Darlow set to replace the French goalkeeper.

Meslier, 25, has started every league game for Leeds this season but despite saving a penalty against Swansea on Saturday, his mistakes cost Farke’s side victory.

‘It’s been important that we had clarity earlier in the week, so Karl could concentrate on this,’ said Farke. ‘It’s the right time for this decision to protect Illan and give him a breather but we trust Karl so much and his quality. I am convinced it’s the right decision.’

Meslier has made numerous errors this season and Farke insisted that he was always reluctant to change his keeper.

‘Karl is buzzing, but it’s more difficult for Illan,’ he said. ‘We all know Illan has had a difficult season. I was always honest about this. With a goalkeeper, you are more careful to change than an outfield player.’

Darlow, 34, will start his first league game since December 2023 when Meslier was suspended.
