Leiecester go for kill against Man City, says Claude Puel

  • Claude Puel is setting up his Leicester side to attack unbeaten Manchester City
  • The same fixture last season saw City beaten 4-2 by a Jamie Vardy hat-trick
  • Puel says his side have the ability to pick their opponents off high up the pitch

Claude Puel is ready to go for the jugular against Manchester City by telling his Leicester players to attack Pep Guardiola’s defence in packs.

City travel to the King Power Stadium undefeated this campaign but lost the corresponding fixture last season 4-2 and Puel sees that as a blueprint for further success.

Puel has begun to shed his reputation as a defensive coach during two matches in charge at Leicester and will task Jamie Vardy with leading his team’ s pursuit of winning possession high up the pitch, which he hopes will test City’s backline.

‘We are at home, and with all the supporters behind us we can do fantastic things,’ he said.

‘We know this team is, with Paris Saint-Germain, the best in Europe. But we stay focused on what we can do to have positive attitude and attack, not just defend against this team.

‘If we need to recover the ball it is good to be pressing together, all the team with good co-ordination, application, and concentration. That is the important thing.

‘If it is just Jamie or just two or three players it’s not possible because this team can play between the lines easily.

‘It is a fantastic challenge. It is an opportunity for us. I hope to win. It would be the first time they lose.’

Vicente Iborra is fit to face City on Saturday. The midfielder came off with an ankle problem in the 2-2 draw at Stoke after scoring his first Foxes goal while Ben Chilwell (knee) is also available.
