Leila Abdallah shares condolences for five teenagers killed in a car crash in Buxton, near Sydney

The mother of three children who were killed in a horrific car crash in Sydney two years ago has sent her condolences to the families of five teenagers who lost their lives in a fatal accident on Tuesday.

Leila Abdallah offered her best wishes to the families of the five young teenagers, who were all aged between 14 and 16 years old.

The teens were being driven by Tyrell Edwards, 18, but were killed when their Nissan Navara careered off the road in Buxton, 100km southwest of the Sydney, just after 8pm on Tuesday.

Mr Edwards was the sole survivor of the nightmare crash and was arrested on Wednesday evening.

Ms Abdallah said she had seen the devastating news coverage of the crash.

‘It’s very tragic … it broke my heart, I want to go put some flowers (at the site) to support the families,’ she told the Daily Telegraph.

‘My heart goes out to them, I know it’s unbearable pain – it’s a nightmare. It’s so sad.’ 

‘The community (would be) in shock and in disbelief,’ she said. 

Ms Abdallah lost three of her children – Sienna, Angelina and Antony, as well as their cousin Veronique Sakr – in 2020 after a driver mounted the curb and ran over the children as they walked to get ice creams.

Samuel Davidson, who was drunk and high on drugs, sped through a red light before mounting a footpath on February 1, 2020 and mowing down the children in a crime that shocked Australia. He was sentenced to 28-years behind bars. 

Police believe the ute in Buxton slid onto its side before hitting a tree on the side of the road, crushing the vehicle’s cabin and killing the teens.

Witnesses who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash said you couldn’t tell the front of the ute from the rear.

Emergency crews that were first to arrive to the scene will be offered counselling. It is believed some of them would have known the victims. 

Friends and family flooded the scene of the crash on Wednesday morning with cards, flowers, photos and personal items.

One pair of the children’s parents laid on the ground together and hugged after saying goodbye to their son.

One bunch of flowers said ‘you will never be forgotten, gotta love’, while another had the words ‘love the memories. You will be missed’.

One teenage girl sobbed as she placed her bunch of flowers on top of the other bouquets.

One mother at the scene was too upset to talk about the crash, saying: ‘I’m sorry. So sad. Too young.’

A handwritten tribute to one of the dead teenagers said they were ‘gone too soon’ and had brought ‘so much kindness to this world’.

A weeping teenage boy visited the site with a girl and adult woman who hugged him as they stood and observed the tragic scene.

Camden Police Superintendent Paul Fuller said alcohol is not believed to be a causing factor of the crash. 

He said the victims’ families had rushed to the scene of the crash after hearing about it on social media. 

‘It’s a horrific accident scene and a tragedy of this magnitude is going to have ripple effects… for their families, friends and through the local community,’ he said.

‘I’ve been in the police for 38 years and it’s one of the worst accident scenes I’ve ever come across.’
