Lembit Opik dumped after night at Alex Best’s house

SIAN LLOYD:  2002 to 2006

‘Lucky escape’ Sian Lloyd dated Opik for four years but said she was relieved when the relationship finally ended

Ulster-born Opik dated ITV weather girl Sian Lloyd from 2002 to 2006 before the high-profile relationship ended, with Opik seeking solace in the arms of pop starlet Gabriela Irimia, one half of The Cheeky Girls.

Lloyd and Opik, who shared a six-bedroomed house together, were bound for the altar but there was no love lost when they split.

The weather presenter turned novelist said of her time with the Lib Dem man: ‘I regard our break-up as my “lucky escape”. It is just a huge relief to be out of that relationship.’

Lloyd went on to marry Jonathan Ashman but the couple split in August 2013 after eight years of marriage.

From the start, they were dubbed the ‘odd couple’ with Opik known as ‘Legover Lembit’ after he began his affair with Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia.

Despite the 18-year age gap, Opik said his then 25-year-old Rmanian fiancée was his ‘intellectual equal’.

By 2008, it was all over, after a turbulent period in their relationship.

Gabriela was last known to be dating a man from her native Romania.

SABINA VANKOVA: 2015 to 2017?

When Bulgarian lawyer Sabina Vankova, 33, went to a Liberal Democrats party to celebrate the promotion of Tim Farron to leader, she got chatting to Opik and the pair hit it off.

Nearly two years on, after a whirlwind romance, the couple are engaged to be married and welcomed their first child together, a daughter born on Sunday 4th June, 2017.

But it appears their relationship may be over after Ms Vankova tweeted: ‘Just ended the relationship with LembitOpik – the woman with whom he spent Monday night can have him now all for herself.’
