Leny Yoro names the one Man United team-mate he is already ‘really close’ with less than a week after arriving at Old Trafford from Lille in £52m move

Leny Yoro has only been a Manchester United player since July 18 but he is already settling in nicely.

The 18-year-old French central defender – who cost a transfer fee of £52million when he joined from Lille – made an impressive United debut in a 2-0 friendly win against Rangers on Saturday.

He is also feeling settled away from the pitch and revealed in a recent interview with manutd.com that he already has an excellent relationship with team-mate Kobbie Mainoo, 19.

‘I’m really close to Kobbie Mainoo, and this will help me a lot,’ explained Yoro. ‘He sent me a message. He’s a really good guy.’

Unlike Yoro, Mainoo has not yet reported for pre-season training with United.

Mainoo and Luke Shaw have both been given extra time off following their involvement in England’s run to the final of Euro 2024.

Yoro also revealed that he spoke to former United star Rio Ferdinand before completing his summer switch to Old Trafford.

‘Two weeks ago, he called me,’ Yoro added.

‘We spoke for 10 minutes about Man United, so he helped me a lot to make my choice.’

‘He mainly spoke about the club and what it’s like. That this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world.

‘It was really good to speak about this.’

Yoro was named in Thierry Henry’s provisional France squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

But he was later left out of the final squad, meaning he will be available to tour the USA with United instead.
