Veteran Italian centre-back Leonardo Bonucci has reportedly held talks with Newcastle with Juventus said to be open to the possibility of letting him leave this summer.
The Juve and Italy captain – who announced he plans to retire from football next summer – has been one of the top defenders in Europe for over a decade and has made over 500 appearances for the Old Lady across two spells.
His current contract expires at the end of next season and Calciomercato claim his time in Italy could be about to come to an end.
Bonucci is said to have little interest in a move to Saudi Arabia or the MLS as he seeks ‘one last important adventure’ and Newcastle are now contemplating a move.
The Italian outlet have revealed that an initial meeting has taken place between the Magpies and Bonucci’s representatives but there is still plenty to be considered before an offer is made.

The defender – one of the most decorated Italians in recent history – announced he is set to retire at the end of the season
Bonucci has won the Serie A title on nine occasions and led his country to their triumph at Euro 2020.
He wouldn’t be Newcastle’s first big signing from Serie A this summer having announced the £52m arrival of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan on a five-year deal.
Tonali has been watched extensively by Newcastle’s scouts in recent months, including the Champions League semi-finals against rivals Inter, which ended in defeat.
He is seen as a player who can anchor Newcastle’s midfield, freeing Bruno Guimaraes to play further forward.
Tonali, who has previously been nicknamed the ‘new Pirlo’, told Newcastle’s official website: ‘First of all, I want to thank Newcastle United because they are giving me a huge opportunity for my career.
‘I want to repay the trust on the pitch, giving it my all, as I always have. I’m really excited about playing at St. James’ Park, I can’t wait to feel the warmth of the fans.’
Their only other signing so far this summer game in the form of 18-year-old Gambia forward Yankuba Minteh from Danish side OB.
