Leonardo DiCaprio keeps low profile while out with friends in NYC… ahead of promotion for new film

Leonardo DiCaprio is gearing up to hit the promotional trail for his upcoming feature film role in Killers Of The Flower Moon.

But with a little bit of time still to go until he kicks into promo mode, the Oscar-winning actor has been out and about in New York City enjoying his downtime with friends.

On Sunday, he was spotted joining up with a group of pals for an afternoon of casual fun in some Downtown Manhattan neighborhoods.

Like he often does when out in public, DiCaprio wore a baseball cap down low over his eyes to help hide his identity.

And with a chill in the air and temperatures hovering from the low 40 and 50s Fahrenheit, he wrapped up in a navy puffer coat that was worn over a blue t-shirt and straight leg jeans.

Calm before the storm: Leonardo DiCaprio, 48, hooked up with a group of friends in Downtown Manhattan on Sunday, which comes ahead of his promotional push for his upcoming film Killers Of The Flower Moon

To complete his casual ensemble, the Los Angeles native slipped on a pair of black leather sneakers, all while he held on to his phone checking to see if there are any messages.

The A-list actor is currently sporting a scruffy goatee to go along with his dark brown hair that was peaking out from under his hat.

DiCaprio has once again teamed up with famed filmmaker Martin Scorsese for Flowers Of The Moon, which tells the true story of the ‘reign of terror’ that left two dozen Native Americans dead.

The $200 million, Apple-backed film, based on a book of the same name by David Grann, is Scorsese’s first attempt at the Western genre.

Like the best-selling book, the screenplay depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma.

The subsequent investigation into the killings, directed by a then 29-year-old J. Edgar Hoover and former Texas Ranger Tom White, helped launch Hoover’s FBI.

Principal photography ultimately began in April 2021, with filming taking place in Osage County and Washington County, namely Pawhuska, Fairfax and Bartlesville, which are all in Oklahoma.

DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, the weak-willed nephew of William Hale (Robert De Niro), a local businessman who wants the Osage oil rights.

Ultimately, it took nearly six months to shoot, with filming finally wrapping in the beginning of October 2021.

DiCaprio has been quoted to boast that he believes this is his best work yet, according to the film’s costume designer Jacqueline West.

‘We had lunch before I came here. He said, “Jackie, I think we worked on a masterpiece.” I thought for Leo to say that, was something. He doesn’t say that lightly,’ West told Deadline, adding, ‘He has been in the business since he was a little boy.’

Along with DiCaprio and De Niro, the stellar cast also includes the likes of Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser and John Lithgow, among a number of others.

Killers Of The Flower Moon is expected to make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France in May.

DiCaprio had previously teamed up with the legendary Scorsese on five films that he directed, including, Gangs Of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Shutter Island (2010) and The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013).
