Lieutenant Dan doesn’t look like this anymore! Forrest Gump star Gary Sinise unrecognisable in rare Australian TV interview

Hollywood star Gary Sinise was barely recognisable when he appeared on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show on Friday.

The Emmy Award winning actor, now 69, looked very different to how he appeared when he played Lieutenant Dan in the iconic Tom Hanks movie Forrest Gump 30 years ago.

Gary looked every inch the silver fox with his short neatly trimmed grey hair.

He also rocked a casual look and has shaved off his once prominent facial fuzz.

However, he still sported the same trademark grin he wore in the iconic 1994 Oscar winning movie.

Gary told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies about how he established a charity which supports disabled veterans after playing Dan, a character who loses his legs in the Vietnam War.

‘I support our disabled veterans because of course Lieutentant Dan is one. The Gary Sinise Foundation is a non-profit which builds homes for our wounded and takes care of their children,’ he explained.

Gary was nominated in 1995 for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work in Forrest Gump.

The movie follows a simple, kind-hearted man played by Hanks, as he unwittingly influences key historical events and finds love, despite life’s many challenges.

Sinise played Gump’s commanding officer in the Vietnam War, who has his life saved by the main character.

The actor has said goodbye to the long, wavy brunette locks and facial hair he sported in the iconic Tom Hanks movie and now rocks a more refined look

Forrest Gump was nominated for 13 Oscars – winning six for Best Picture, Best Actor (Hanks), Best Director (Robert Zemeckis), Best Adapted Screenplay (Eric Roth), Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects.

Gary formed a close friendship with Tom, and went on to appear in Apollo 13 and The Green Mile with him.

He also appeared alongside Mel Gibson in the 1996 thriller Ransom and Kate Walsh in the TV series 13 Reasons Why.
