‘Genius’ life hack for solving one of the most common couple’s arguments: ‘Where do you want to go for dinner?’

  • A relationship coach gives ‘what’s for dinner?’ advice
  • He says men need to give their partners two options

A relationship coach has revealed how to solve the ‘what do you want for dinner’ argument – and says it’s all in the way you phrase the question.

Self-described ‘attachment specialist’ Adam Lane Smith asked popular performance coach Dee Jay Hillier if he has ever had the common argument with his wife.

‘Do you ever ask her where she wants to eat and it turns into the crazy conversation?’ he asked.

Dee Jay laughed and admitted he had had that exact conversation when Adam revealed it is his fault it spirals and how other men can avoid making the same ‘mistake’.

‘It happens because you throw out there ‘hey where do you want to go to eat,’ he said.

‘Their (the woman) brain starts running like this, thinking about how to give you the best experience, both of you the best experience,’ he said.

He then said it then ends up with the woman declaring the man should choose which can frustrate the man as they wanted an answer, not another question.

‘Then it turns into some gladiator death match,’ he said.

Adam said they way to ‘fix’ this is to give your partner two options.

‘Babe, let’s go get something to eat. I would like to go to blank or blank,’ he explained.

He added that it makes the woman’s decision easier if she knows that you will be happy with either option.

‘Her brain says she will be happy either place, the pressure is off we will have a great experience.

Dee jay admitted he and his wife have had the same, cross, conversation about dinner

‘You have to make it clear you will be happy with either,’ he said.

And his student nodded enthusiastically.

More than 81,000 people ‘liked’ the advice online and many people agreed.

‘This is actually almost exactly how it works. Whenever my husband asks me where I want to eat my brain pick up a list of 1001 places that we’ve been before and I try to remember which ones he liked that I also liked,’ one woman said.

‘I make plenty of decisions all day and it’s wonderful when someone else narrows the field so I can just focus on enjoying my limited time with my hubby,’ said another woman.

Others said the ‘hack’ would not work on the

‘I fully disagree. Because anything you suggest, won’t sound good. I don’t cater my every want around what is best for my husband. If he asks me what I want I think he genuinely wants to know what I want,’ one woman said.

Some women commented to let others know ‘it doesn’t work on men’.

‘This is exactly what I did to my husband the other day. I told him I was hungry and the three fast food places in the little town we were in were all fine with me. They all sounded good. He still couldn’t pick and growled at me because I wouldn’t tell him which one. Then I yelled. Delightful evening,’ one woman said.

Dee Jay smiled and nodded at the 'hack' and looked keen to try it

Some have their own ways of getting husbands to answer the question – and say it doesn’t always have to be down to the man, as Adam explained.

‘After 25 years of marriage, I finally figured out my own life hack for this. When he asks, I name a place and if he doesn’t want that, he’ll say, well, I was thinking about (insert restaurant name). And i reply, “perfect. Sounds great to me”,’ one woman said.

Another woman said she usually just says ‘guess what’s for dinner’ and goes with her partner’s first response.
