Linguist reveals ‘very unethical’ hack for learning a new language in just a matter of months

Forget about Duolingo – there’s a better way to pick up a new language, according to one woman on TikTok.

Eylül Nim, who speaks six languages, regularly shares her tips on how to best learn new dialects – however her latest suggestion sees her offering some much more salacious advice on how to improve your studies.

Her recommendation? Find an attractive teacher.

‘I’m about to give you an unethical tip for learning a new language very effectively,’ she said in one of her latest videos.

Eylül, who is originally from Turkey but currently lives in Seoul, South Korea, recently uploaded a video of herself speaking French – leaving her followers stunned and unable to believe she’d learned yet another language.

‘You guys where like wtf, how did you learn this much in nine months?’ she recalled.

Eylül said she tried to find engaging content for awhile when learning French, but struggled to find something interesting – until she stumbled across French Teacher Carlito’s YouTube channel.

‘I started watching this guy because he’s hot and I was so bored with anything else French at the time,’ she admitted.

‘I started to watch his videos just for his face. It was nice to look at his face.’

After consistently watching his videos, Eylül said they had stuck with her and she had picked up enough French to hold a conversation – and was getting comments and questions from native speakers who were wondering how she knew the colloquialisms of the language.

‘It’s probably my boy Carlito,’ she quipped. ‘He probably said it one time and it stuck with me.’

‘So basically, find someone how that speaks your [target] language and stare at their face and unconsciously learn languages ,’ she concluded.

Thousands of people have commented on the TikTok, which has more than six million views, thanking the polyglot for her advice – and sharing their own.

‘I had a crush on my Spanish teacher and got an A so this probably works. I’ve completely forgotten it all but hey I got the grade lmao (laughing my a** off),’ one commented.

‘That’s how my russian improved so much when i was in erasmus, because i had a huge crush on this Belarusian guy and i picked up so many phrases from him (vlad i still miss u)’ another shared.

Someone else added: ‘I leaned Spanish watching telenovelas. And I learned English watching movies.

Eylül often shares learning language tips to her social media, her main piece of advice being develop habits that will strengthen your skills.

The first habit she suggests is binge listening rather than binge watching.

‘Swap Netflix for podcasts, audiobooks, and even catchy tunes in your target language,’ Eylül advised.

‘Our ears will soak it up like a sponge even if you don’t consciously understand what’s going on or follow the conversation.’

Secondly, the language guru says to talk to yourself.

‘Don’t freak out your neighbors – just narrate your day, order coffee, or even argue with the TV in your target language,’ she suggested.

‘Bonus points for recording yourself and cringing at the first attempt (we’ve all been there).’

Her third habit is to turn your phone into a different language.

‘Ditch the mindless scrolling and download language learning apps like Langster, Duolingo, TV5 Monde and even follow hilarious meme accounts,’ she urged.

‘Every kind of exposure counts, and you’ll be laughing (and learning) in no time!’
