Chris McCarthy, who serves as the head of Paramount Global and as the President & CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, also shared a statement to speak about Lioness’ success with viewers.

‘Lioness captivated audiences around the world as one of the most-watched global series premieres on Paramount+ last year,’ he said.

‘Driven by Taylor Sheridan’s masterful storytelling and Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana’s remarkable performances, season two promises to immerse audiences in yet another riveting, adrenaline-fueled journey,’ he added.

Lioness is centered on a Marine who becomes recruited into the CIA’s program of the same name and is tasked with befriending the daughter of a suspected terrorist.

In addition to serving as the show’s creator, Sheridan acted as one of its executive producers.

The entertainment industry powerhouse also wrote the scripts for the program’s entire first season.

Lioness made its debut on Paramount+ in July of last year, and the show’s first season ran for a total of eight episodes.

The program received mixed reviews from critics and currently holds a score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Saldana spoke about Lioness during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and discussed how Sheridan based the show on his interest in the female-led U.S. Army program of the same name.

‘I do know that [Sheridan] has a great deal of admiration for the real work that gets done when we’re all sleeping, so he takes it upon himself to highlight this world,’ she said.

The performer also opened up about her character, a CIA officer placed in charge of the Lioness program’s field agents.

‘I think I needed to have her intentions very clear in my mind. For me, she’s a straight shooter. She’s clean. There’s nothing dirty about what Joe does,’ she said.
