Lions coach Dan Campbell shares hilarious exchange with radio hosts over Detroit’s decision to go for two-point conversion vs Cowboys: ‘Go ahead… say you what you want to say!’

Lions coach Dan Campbell dared radio hosts to criticize his decision to go for two against the Cowboys during a hilarious on-air exchange.

Detroit was beaten 20-19 at AT&T Stadium last week after failing with three attempts at a last-gasp two-point conversion.

With 23 seconds on the clock, the Lions thought they had won the game after Jared Goff found Taylor Decker in the endzone, only for officials to controversially penalize Decker for ‘illegal touching’.

That sent the Lions back to the seven-yard line but Campbell’s side still went for the win. After their second try was intercepted, an penalty against the Cowboys handed the Lions handed a reprieve.

Again Campbell chose not to tie the game and the gamble backfired when Goff’s pass was incomplete.

‘Looking back, was there a point of no return where you laid on your sword and kicked the extra point? Do you regret at all the decision to go for it from the seven?’ Campbell was asked by Jim Costa on 97.1 The Ticket.

Campbell responded: ‘I told our offense… we’re going for the win. We’re going to go down, we’re going to score and we’re going for two. And I wasn’t coming off that.’

When pressed on whether anything would have changed his mind, the Lions boss eventually told the two presenters: Go ahead and say it – both of you! Say you what you want to say!’

Costa replied: ‘I think from the seven, it’s a low-percentage play, I think your chances of winning are lower than if you kick the extra point.’

But still Campbell was not satisfied. ‘No, say it like you’d say it to anybody else. I’m on the radio. Say it like you want to say it,’ he told Costa.

‘I thought it was a reckless decision,’ the host admitted, to which Campbell replied: ‘Thank you.’

Finally, when asked again whether he had any regrets over the decision, the coach was emphatic: ‘No,’ he said.
