Lisa Wilkinson has jumped to the defence of Grace Tame after an old photo of her pictured next to a bong surfaced, calling attacks on her ‘utterly deplorable.’
The Project host claimed arrows slung at the former Australian of the Year were ‘designed to say to any woman striving for change: step out of line/question the status quo & we’re coming for you’.
It comes as one Immigration Minister Alex Hawke responded to conspiracy theories claiming the photo, published by Daily Mail Australia this week, was leaked by the Federal government.
‘I saw some people on Twitter start to say the government did it. I don’t believe that at all,’ the senior minister said.

The resurfaced image (pictured) shows the then-19-year-old next to a bong made the rounds on Monday night after critics found the 2014 image in plain sight
The viral photo was seized upon by Ms Tame’s critics, who found the eight-year-old image hidden in plain sight on her Instagram page at the weekend.
Ms Tame deleted the image after Daily Mail Australia made an inquiry on Monday.
