LISTEN to It’s All Kicking Off! Were England good in their opener or is the criticism fair?

England’s hard fought 1-0 victory over Serbia should be viewed as a ‘excellent start’ to their Euro 2024 campaign despite criticism of their display, according to Mail Sport’s Dominic King.

Jude Bellingham scored the only goal on Sunday night as Gareth Southgate’s side made a winning start to the tournament in Germany.

The Three Lions’ performance has been labelled as ‘underwhelming’ and a ‘tough watch’, while European media have been left unimpressed by their showing in Gelsenkirchen.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off, King admitted he was ‘amazed’ at some of the criticism and believes the victory and clean sheet should be viewed as a strong start.

Marc Guehi’s ‘terrific’ tournament debut and Jude Bellingham’s performance were highlighted as positives.

Mail Sport’s Nathan Salt believes Southgate’s side did a ‘very professional job’ against Serbia, stressing that England were comfortable despite the suggestion it was an ‘edge of the seat’ conclusion to the match.
