Bayer Leverkusen have agreed to sign Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah for an initial fee of £30million plus £5million in add-ons.

The centre-back, who is currently with England at the Under-21 European Championship, is set to sign a contract with Leverkusen that will run until 2030.

With Quansah poised to depart, Liverpool will now focus on attempting to bring in a young centre-back.

In addition to their interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Arne Slot’s team are also looking to sign another player in that position.

Over the past 12 months Liverpool looked at Leny Yoro before he joined Manchester United and Dean Huijsen prior to his switch to Real Madrid.

Quansah, 22, joined Liverpool’s academy at the age of five and played 58 senior games for the club, scoring three times.

He won the Premier League and the League Cup during his time with the club.

Liverpool will have a buy-back clause included in the deal for Quansah.

The Reds have had several transfer dealings with Leverkusen already this summer, having signed Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from the German club, who are now managed by former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

There have also been some significant outgoings from Anfield, with Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid, while Caoimhin Kelleher joined Brentford.

After winning the Premier League title during his first season in charge of Liverpool, Slot is now targeting further success.

Guehi is one of the players on Liverpool’s radar, but the England international is reportedly willing to see out the final year of his contract at Palace.

Newcastle and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Guehi.

Quansah, who has previously been called up by the Three Lions at senior level, has played every game of England Under-21s’ run to the semi-final of the European Championship.

England Under-21s are back in action on Wednesday when they take on the Netherlands.
