Liverpool are not currently discussing the possibility of Jarell Quansah joining Bayer Leverkusen as part of their negotiations to sign Florian Wirtz.

The Reds are attempting to reach an agreement with Leverkusen for Wirtz, who could cost a British record £126m fee.

It has been suggested that they could look to include one of their players in the deal to lower Leverkusen’s asking price.

However, Mail Sport understands that Liverpool are not thinking of letting Quansah leave at this stage.

Quansah, 22, has risen through the ranks at Liverpool and made his first-team breakthrough in the 2023-24 season.

He made 17 league appearances in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield, but was limited to just 13 under Arne Slot after finding himself behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order.

Quansah was linked with a potential switch to Newcastle last summer as part of a transfer that would have seen Anthony Gordon move in the opposite direction.

However, the swap deal failed to materialise and he ended up staying at Liverpool, where he won his first Premier League title.

Quansah is currently in Slovakia with England’s Under-21s as Lee Carsley’s men prepare to defend their European Championship title, and his future may become clearer after the tournament.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are advancing in their talks with Leverkusen over Wirtz, but the final details still need to be ironed out before his switch to the Premier League club is completed.

The Merseyside outfit have already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen this summer, and are expected to finalise their double swoop in the coming days.
