- Jordan Henderson confronted Loris Karius as team celebrated win over Roma
- The Liverpool captain appeared to scold the goalkeeper for not catching the ball
- Karius had headed the ball instead of catching it as Roma attempted a comeback
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson outed himself as an absolute perfectionist as he chose to confront Loris Karuis over a goalkeeping error as the rest of the team celebrated their Champions League semi-final victory.
Despite losing 4-2 on the night to Roma, Liverpool scraped into the Champions League final 7-6 on aggregate with the final whistle sparking scenes of jubilation among Jurgen Klopp’s men.
But as they jumped around in front of their travelling fans in the Stadio Olimpico, Henderson made a beeline for the German goalkeeper and gave him a royal ear-bashing, albeit one that appeared to be in good humour.

Video footage caught the moment the smile was wiped off of Karius’ face with the English midfielder appearing to criticise him for choosing to head the ball instead of catching it, as he did in the final moments of the game.
The footage sparked plenty of reaction on social media with some saying Henderson was too harsh on the young shot-stopper while others praised him for showing the leadership credentials required to be Liverpool skipper.
One wrote: ‘Highlight of match – LFC players celebrating with fans and Henderson is ripping into Karius after the match for not coming and claiming a ball in the second half.’
Another opined: ‘Skipper Jordan Henderson joining in the celebrations by giving Karius an earful for not catching the ball. Time and a place man.’
Henderson eventually found the time to celebrate Liverpool’s narrow win over Roma
Twitter users express a wide range of opinions on the exchange between the two players
Karius’ performance won few plaudits on the night but he did make several good saves to deny Roma and keep Liverpool in the driving seat following a 5-2 win in the first leg.
It was only a late brace from Raja Nainggolan that put Roma within a goal of taking the tie to extra time, but his late penalty would turn out to be the final kick of the game.
Even in his post-match interview, Henderson said the last 10 minutes marred what was otherwise a good performance.
‘We never do it the easy way unfortunately. It was an amazing effort,’ Henderson said after the game.
‘In the first half we did well and scored some good goals. Overall we handled the situation well apart from the last 10 minutes. We need to stop that but I’m delighted we’re in the final.’
Karius let four goals in but also made several fine saves to keep Liverpool ahead in the tie
