Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been handed a boost after Nathaniel Clyne resumed first team training.

Clyne, who has missed the majority of the season with a back injury, has also been included in the 25-man squad that will take on Porto in the Champions League.

Klopp admits, however, that the full back is still some way from being included in the starting XI.

‘Clyney is back; of course, it is absolutely too early to think about him, but he is back in normal training, so that’s cool,’ he told Liverpool’s official website.

‘He’s been training for two days but after that long of a break, it will take time until he is able to play.’

The Reds take on Porto on Wednesday night before starting a four-day training camp due to having no fixture at the weekend.

Klopp believes his players will benefit from the training camp ahead of returning to Premier League action against West Ham.

He said: ‘First of all, it is normal we take a bigger squad to a European game because we have three days away at least.

‘With training, a lot of things can happen – it’s always like this and that’s the main reason. There are three or four players here more than we would have usually.

‘The other reason is we will go afterwards and use the time we have now – unfortunately, due to being out of the FA Cup – for proper training in different surroundings.

‘It’ll be four really intense sessions and then we will come back to England and have a full week to prepare for the West Ham game and the rest of the season. It’s really good the club gave us the opportunity to do it.’
