Jamie Carragher was among the Liverpool legends to praise the team’s performance
And the victory left Liverpool’s legends more than impressed on Wednesday, with the likes of Carragher and Fowler singing the players’ praises.
Former England defender Carragher took to Twitter to praise four players in particular. He wrote: ‘Mane back to his best, Salah’s goal Messiesque, VVD like a man amongst boys & Bobby Dazzler!’
Furthermore, earlier on in the match, Carragher described his former side’s performance as ‘devastating’.
Fowler opted for a more amusing approach, making reference to Valentine’s Day during the Champions League encounter.

Robbie Fowler made this joke about Liverpool’s display, making reference to Valentine’s Day
The ex-striker joked on his social media page: ‘Mrs has been saying all day “someone’s gonna get it tonight”. She’s just walked in the room and said “told ya”.’
But Fowler and Carragher weren’t the only past Liverpool players to talk up Liverpool’s impressive performance, with the likes of Peter Crouch and Michael Owen getting in on the action.
Crouch, in typical fashion, made a joke about Salah’s composure (or lack of) in front of goal after the Egyptian scored a dazzling second for Liverpool.
The 37-year-old Stoke man wrote: ‘If Salah didn’t panic in front of goal he’d score more.’

Michael Owen spoke about his delight after finding out the score in the BT Sport studio
Owen, who was in the BT Sport studio covering Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, said: ‘Great news filtering from the other studio. Liverpool in cruise control.’
Even Liverpool owner John W Henry had his say on Twitter, insisting the Anfield outfit put in a ‘tremendous effort.
He added: ‘Tremendous effort in 5-0 win tonight away from home in Champions League. A lot of talent displaying selfless, smart play we all can be proud of. Huge, satisfying step toward final eight.’
