Liverpool release new ‘deep violet’ away kit for 2018-19 season

Liverpool have revealed their new away kit for the 2018-19 season.

Alongside their famous red strip, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be decked out in a ‘deep violet’ shirt with the goalkeeper wearing a ‘bold vivid cactus’ jersey for their games away from Anfield.

The New Balance kit, which still has the name of club sponsors, Standard Chartered, emblazoned across the chest, will be available to buy from Wednesday.

It is the first time since 2012-13 that the club have worn violet and next season’s edition replaces the white and blue-green quartered shirt that Liverpool wore as they secured a top-four finish and reached the Champions League final this year.

One constant, however, is the 96 emblem, in commemoration of the fans who lost their lives in HIllsborough disaster, which will remain at the top of the back of the kit.

The outfield players will wear purple shorts and purple and black striped socks, while the goalkeeper will wear bright green shorts and socks, too.

‘As a player the most important thing is how the shirt feels and performs. This kit gives us confidence to play to the best of our ability away from home,’ Reds defender Virgil van Dijk said.

‘We have the best travelling support in football and I’m excited to run out in front of our fans wearing this strip.’

The bright green goalkeeper kit for next season is in start contrast to the black shirt worn by Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet last season.

Following the German No 1’s struggles against Real Madrid in Kiev, it remains to be seen who will wear the jersey in the Reds’ first away game for the 2018-19 season.

The club have also introduced a new name and number style for the upcoming season. The ‘Alpha Orange’ design and new font, the club claim, is ‘designed to embody iconic characteristics of Anfield Stadium and the surrounding area.’
