Liverpool have notified Bayern Munich that they will make a formal offer for midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The 21-year-old, who is valued around £30m, did not train with his colleagues on Thursday morning as he remained on standby for negotiations.

Bayern still want to sign a new midfielder of their own first and remain in talks with Fulham over Joao Palhinha.

Gravenberch agreed personal terms for a move to Merseyside earlier this week.

Mail Sport reported in the Premier League Q and A on Wednesday that Liverpool were preparing a formal approach for Gravenberch with the player keen on a move to Anfield.

The club’s German sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has extensive experience with the Bundesliga and has been key to the ongoing discussions thus far.

The Netherlands international joined Bayern for £21m last summer on a five-year deal with the Bavarian giants beating out interest from Manchester United to secure his signature.

However, Gravenberch struggled to hold down a consistent place in the starting XI in his maiden season in Germany, as Die Roten recovered from a poor run of form to secure an eleventh-consecutive league title on the final day of last season.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be a keen admirer of the former Ajax star, with his versatility offering the Reds various options in midfield.

The Reds have found themselves in need of reinforcements after a number of former stalwarts departed the club this summer.

Jordan Henderson joined former teammate Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, while Fabinho also made a move to the Saudi Pro League, joining Al-Ittihad while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all left at the end of their contracts last season.

Meanwhile, Bayern remain in negotiations with Chelsea for defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Chalobah has five years remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge but the former England international has yet to feature for the Blues in a competitive fixture this season.
