Liverpool vow to subsidise tickets for Champions League semi-final first-leg against Barcelona after Spanish club infuriate Reds fans by charging €119 – just as they did with Manchester United supporters

  • Liverpool supporters will be charged €119 for a ticket by Barcelona
  • The teams face off in the Champions League semi-final first leg on May 1
  • Barcelona have enraged English clubs with their excessive ticket pricing
  • Liverpool will reciprocate and charge Barcelona fans €119 for the return leg
  • The club will also subsidise Reds fans, reducing the first-leg price by €31 to €88

Liverpool supporters will be charged €119 for a ticket by Barcelona for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on May 1.

Barcelona have enraged English clubs this season with their excessive ticket pricing, with both Tottenham and Manchester United fans suffering, and Liverpool now find themselves in the same position.

Liverpool attempted to hold negotiations with Barcelona over a pricing structure. They had a meeting with Porto officials before the Champions League quarter-finals and the Portuguese club decided to reduce the cost of seats rather than charge a premium.

That, however, is not the case with Barcelona and Liverpool now take what they have called ‘reciprocal measures’ and charge Barcelona fans €119 for the return leg at Anfield on May 7. Liverpool will then subside their fans costs by €31.

The club said in a statement: All away tickets are priced at €119, which is in line with FC Barcelona’s pricing structure for the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League.

‘As a result, LFC will charge Barcelona supporters a reciprocal ticket price of €119 in the return leg at Anfield on Tuesday May 7. The additional revenue from this higher ticket pricing will be used to subsidise Liverpool supporters for their tickets, reducing the price by €31 to €88.

‘The club believes parity of pricing is the most logical approach and remains committed to working with UEFA, ECA (European Club Association) and other member clubs with a view to introducing a more structured ticket pricing process for Champions League matches.’
