Livid Stuart Broad blasts Alex Carey after he controversially dismissed Jonny Bairstow

‘You’ll forever be remembered for that’: Livid Stuart Broad blasts Alex Carey after Australian wicket-keeper controversially dismissed Jonny Bairstow

Stuart Broad lashed out at Alex Carey as tempers flared at Lord’s after the Australian wicket-keeper controversially dismissed Jonny Bairstow.

Bairstow ducked to avoid a bouncer off Cameron Green, before wandering out of the crease assuming the ball was dead.

Carey, however, swiftly picked up the ball and threw it underarm from behind the stumps to stump the England batter.

Bairstow slowly trudged off incredulous and Broad wasted no time in letting the Australian wicket-keeper know what I thought of his actions, with the conversation picked up by the stump mic.

‘You’ll forever be remembered for that,’ he told Carey after joining Ben Stokes at the crease, as the crowd at Lord’s loudly booed.

Broad then turned to Pat Cummins: ‘That’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen in cricket,’ he said of the dismissal.

The England seamer also lashed out at Marnus Labuschagne, who was fielding at short leg, with the pair exchanging words in a heated back-and-forth.

Broad and Cummins had another back-and-forth shortly afterward asking him: ‘Do you think that’s out?’ after the Australia captain dropped a difficult caught and bowl chance off Ben Stokes.

After ducking a bouncer at the end of the over, then Broad deliberately grounded his bat behind the crease and waited for Carey to walk past him before moving.

Beginning the day on four for 114 and requiring 371 to win, Ben Duckett and Stokes started well as England’s captain passed 50.

Duckett was eventually dismissed for a well-made 83 as Carey took a sensational one-handed catch down the legside.

Stokes reached his ton in just 142 balls as England continued an unlikely chase.

Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja and David Warner confronted members of the Marylebone Cricket Club in Lord’s Long Room.

Khawaja was seen arguing with a member of the club while he walked back to the dressing room before being pulled away by a teammate and staff member.

Boos rang out throughout the room as Australia walked past the MCC members.
