The singer, 31, hit back at the critical comment which insisted she had attracted such a huge following ‘because there is an obesity epidemic in America.’
The Grammy nominee, who has seen her fame soar in 2019, defended her talent, declaring: ‘I’m popular because I write good songs and I’m talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love.’

The troll tweeted on December 20: ‘#Lizzo popular is because there is an obesity epidemic in America.’
‘Rather than encouraging people to do better, we are simply lying to them and telling them that they are just fine the way they are.’
‘Unfortunately, Many of these people are dying from diabetes and heart disease.’
Lizzo hit back on December 23 with a strongly-worded reply, tweeting: ‘I’m popular because I write good songs and I’m talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love’.

‘From March to … now!’ the Good as Hell singer said. ‘I was experiencing a little bit of unhappiness. I was not happy with the way I felt to my body.
‘I didn’t feel sexy, and I didn’t know when it was going to end. There were times when I would go onstage and be like, “Y’all, I’m not going to lie. I’m not feeling myself.” Sometimes I’d break down and cry.’
Despite a certified Platinum album, eight Grammy nominations and her first movie role alongside Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers, Lizzo still had trouble staying positive.
‘Sometimes the audience would just cheer to make me feel better,’ she said. ‘I was getting sick a lot. I was like, “What the f*** is going on? I need to fall back in love with my body.”‘

Her own plight with self love has sparked discussion among fans and foes, but has ultimately helped normalise inclusivity and body positivity.

She’s received a fair share of commentary — be it negative or positive — but still stands strong in her love for her work and her fans, adding in the candid interview.
‘I have to bite my tongue on certain things. When people challenge my talent, they challenge whether I deserve to be here. They challenge my blackness. I’m like, “Oh! I can easily just let your ass know right now in 132 characters why you’re f***ing wrong.”‘
