Locals fear Byron Bay ‘celebrity spill’ as Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky construct mega-mansion

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky are in the midst of building a new home in Broken Head, near Byron Bay, NSW, that’s been likened to a shopping centre and a hospital.

And on Friday, it emerged that locals from the sunny coastal town are also concerned its construction could lead to too many celebrities infiltrating the area.

According to Woman’s Day, neighbours of the Thor actor and his Spanish model wife, residents fear more and more eye-sore homes of the rich and famous will be built and there will be a an ‘overflow’ of stars.

‘It used to be very quiet, but the overflow from [Byron Bay] is horrendous,’ local resident Darren Birch complained to the publication.

He added: ‘You can’t get a park, you’ve gone from surfing with three people to surfing with 53 people.

‘It seems excessive but there’s not much we can do about it – nothing surprises me in this town these days.’

The huge construction has received mixed reactions from the public, with many accusing the couple of being hypocritical, given their environmentally conscious reputation.

Critics took to social media to voice their concerns, with someone writing ‘Looks like the new Woolies’ in a Byron Bay community group.

Another thought the power couple were up to something more than building a new home for them and children India Rose, 5, and twin boys Sasha and Tristan, 3.

‘What the hell is he building..that’s more than just a house,’ someone wrote.

A large patch of vegetation next to the home has also been cleared, possibly to make way for a garage space.

The architecturally-designed estate is estimated to be costing the Avengers star more than $8million to build.

It is expected to feature a gym, steam room, large swimming pool, luxury spa, media room and games room, as well as vast outdoor spaces and six bedrooms.
