A locksmith filmed the shocking moment he was confronted by the putrid mess and smell left behind by tenants.

The man has recalled the horror of being called to change the locks of an abandoned property left in an appalling condition in Sydney’s west and shared the evidence of the ‘house of hell, which has since gone viral online.

The locksmith is heard dry-wrenching as soon as he opens the door of the St Marys apartment and is greeted by what could arguably be a contender for Australia’s filthiest home.

The tenants left behind a massive clean-up, which will likely cost more than their bond.

The living areas and kitchen are covered with discarded possessions, upended furniture and strewn rubbish, including food packaging and dozens of UberEats bags.

The locksmith was so appalled by the state and stench from the abandoned rental property that he refused to venture further inside

Abandoned toys on the couch indicate children may have possibly been also living in the appalling conditions.

The condition of the bedrooms and bathroom is unknown, with the locksmith refusing to take more than a few steps inside after being overwhelmed by the repulsive stench.

‘Oh yuck, that stinks! I can’t work in there,’ he says and can be struggling not to be physically ill.

He quickly shuts the door and is heard gasping for fresh air in the common area of the complex.

‘I’m good now,’ he says a few seconds a later.

The locksmith captioned the clip: ‘The tenants had done the runner, so I had to change the locks! I opened up to this.’

He later added in the comments he was reluctant to do the job he was called out to.

The TikTok video attracted thousands of views and comments within two days.

Another added ‘I seriously don’t understand how people can live like this!’

A third wrote: ‘How does this even happen, that’s got to be like a year’s worth of rubbish.’

Others familiar with the area weren’t so shocked.

‘Used to be a property manager in St Marys, this isn’t the worst I’ve seen when I started doing routine inspections,’ one viewer wrote.

One man added: ‘Ex-locksmith here. This is half the reason I left the trade working in western Sydney!’
