Logan teen Lochlen Corcoran’s tragic text to mate before dying in e-scooter crash

Tributes are pouring in for an Australian teenager who died in a tragic e-scooter crash, as a kind text message sent by him to another dying friend emerged, showing his ‘heart of gold’.

Lochlen Corcoran, 15, died in hospital days after crashing on a suburban footpath on his way to school in Logan, south of Brisbane, last Tuesday.

The 15-year-old hit his head and was rushed to hospital after coming off the e-scooter at about 8.30am on Basalt Drive in Yarrabilba.

Mr Corcoran died at Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane on Sunday after sustaining critical injuries.

Queensland woman Kezz Blume, whose 12-year-old son Ricky died after an accident in February, shared Lochlen’s heartbreaking final message to her son.

‘I love you, I know you may not see this or anything but I love you,’ Lochlen wrote.

‘I may never say it to ya, but you’re my speedy boy and you’re not ready to leave my brother.

‘We’re all gonna miss you so much, like my little brother. Don’t go yet my boy.’

Ricky’s father Chris Blume posted that his boy ‘now has a friend to play with again… in heaven.’

Lochlen’s grief-stricken mother, Gemma, posted a gut-wrenching message to her son after he died on Sunday afternoon.

‘My beautiful baby boy grew his angle wings at 3.24pm today surrounded by all that loved him,’ she wrote.

‘I love you, mummy’s baby boy, you put up the biggest fight and tried your hardest.’

Browns Plains Bears Rugby League Club posted a tribute to the popular teen, who played football for the club.

A family friend posted in tribute ‘he was such a great kid and he loved everyone and was loved by everyone.’

A Queensland youth worker remembered Lochlen as ‘a kind boy’.

‘He was such a beautiful, well mannered boy, I was one of the youth workers at Rekon and remember him well as a kind boy,’ she said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help his family with funeral costs.

‘He was a beautiful boy with the biggest heart in the world. Fly high Lokie,’ said a woman on the page.

Another woman echoed the sentiments, say ‘Such a beautiful boy’.

Witnesses attempted CPR on Lochlen while they waited for paramedics to attend.

The accident occurred near the Yarrabiliba State Secondary College where the 15-year-old was a student.

He was rushed to hospital in Brisbane where he had been until Sunday when he tragically died.

The incident follows a move by the state government to improve rider safety through tighter regulation for e-scooters.

Queensland Transport Minister Mark Bailey last month said the government would put in place speed limits on some footpaths, mandate warning devices and increase penalties for high-risk behaviours.

The new regulations are due to be introduced by the end of 2022.

Earlier this year the government announced speeds would be halved to 12 km/h on footpaths.

Mr Bailey said it was hard to ignore the popularity of e-scooters and they weren’t going anywhere as a transport option.
