Logic reunites immigrant parents and children separated at the border during VMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards were filled with the usual amount of glitter and skin on Monday night.

But Logic once again used his turn on the stage to send a powerful protest against Donald Trump’s immigration policy that had Twitter alight.

The rapper joined together dozens of immigrant parents and children on the stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York for a performance of his song One Day.

Logic sported a shirt reading ‘F**k The Wall’, while every child and parent wore shirts that read ‘We Are All Human Beings’ for the emotional moment.

Logic once again used his turn on the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards to send a powerful message, this time about the Trump administration’s immigration policy

The performance began with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder at the piano on stage, before Logic came out from the lobby with dozens of children behind him.

Rousing applause and a standing ovation from the celebrity-filled crowd greeted the children, who were of various ages, as they walked towards the stage.

The children stood in a line and held hands in front of a screen that showed a bright piece of yellow Caution tape that read ‘US Border Patrol’.

Then, as Logic continued to rap and sing about how everything’s ‘gonna be alright’, the screen suddenly went up and revealed the children’s parents.

The crowd exploded into applause as the children happily ran up to hug their parents, simulating the reunions of families separated by Trump’s former policy.

They then all turned on electric candles from the stage, holding them up to the sky as the performance came to an end, some children with tears in their eyes.

The emotional performance quickly caught the attention of Twitter, where many admitted that they were likewise crying at home.

‘So much for live tweeting the VMAs, I’m probably just gonna spend the rest of the night tweeting about how great @Logic301’s performance was,’ one fan wrote.

‘When the parents came out on stage to reunite with their children during @Logic301 performance I started crying. Love how he always uses his platform to spread awareness for bigger issues,’ another added.

‘Thank you Logic for the compassion and humanity that defines you. If the rest of the world was like you, it would be a better place,’ one commenter said.

Another fan tagged Trump in their tweet, asking the president if he was watching the performance.

Included in the group of children was Jefferson Arpi, a fifteen-year-old whose father has been detained for nine months.

‘I’m so excited to have performed with Logic tonight,’ Arpi said in a statement.

‘It meant a lot to me to be able to represent my family because my dad, Manuel Arpi, is in a detention camp.’

‘Logic’s music video showed that even though our families face a lot of pain, we are strong, we are fighters, and we are human.’

This isn’t the first time Logic has taken the VMA stage to spread awareness.

Last year the rapper brought out 50 suicide attempt survivors, all wearing shirts that read ‘You Are Not Alone’, as he performed his song 1-800-273-8255.

Logic’s VMA performance took inspiration from his song’s music video, which juxtaposes scenes of an immigrant child being ripped from his mother’s arms at the border with a white boy happily celebrates his birthday with his family.

While Donald Trump dropped his own administration’s separation policy more than a month ago, hundreds of children who were separated from their parents still remain in federal custody.
