Lauren Newton shared an emotional Instagram post on Thursday in the wake of her mother Patti’s heartfelt speech at the Logie Awards.

During Sunday’s ceremony, Patti presented the Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter in honour of her late husband, TV legend Bert Newton.

‘Dad would be so honoured to have a Logie Award named after him,’ Lauren, 42, said.

Lauren, a mother of six, expressed her love and admiration for her mum and the speech she delivered to more than a million Australians watching at home. 

Lauren said: ‘He would have been so proud of the incredible job mum did in presenting it.

‘She was so wonderful and we were all very proud.’

Bert died in October 2021 at the age of 81 after a lengthy illness.

‘It feels very emotional,’ Patti told The Herald Sun. 

‘Because they’re doing a tribute to Bert, and because they’re naming an award after him, we feel very special. Bert would just be so happy.’

Patti and Bert’s daughter Lauren, who also attended the Logies, gave her mother a silver ‘Bert’ necklace to wear on the night.
