Lola Berry’s expert tips to meal prepping like a pro

Meal prepping is one of the things many people say they’ll do come Sunday morning, but then so often don’t find the time.

But never fear, Australian nutritionist and expert, Lola Berry, has shared her tips on how to be the master of meal prep.

‘Preparation is key my friends. If you can set aside just 90 minutes each week, you can seriously set yourself up for a week of perfectly healthy eating,’ she wrote for Whimn.

Here, FEMAIL rounds up Lola’s top tips – including making mushrooms into chips and stocking up on hard-boiled eggs.

PREPARING YOUR GRAINS

First up, Lola suggested cooking up a pot of quinoa with coconut milk and a pinch of salt, before leaving it in the fridge when it’s done.

While it takes an impressive 25 minutes of cooking to get your quinoa sorted, she added that it will last up to four or five days in the fridge – without a problem.

The nutritionist added that quinoa is not only good in salads and main meals, but works at breakfast time too:

‘I use one cup with brekkie [sic] – all I do is heat it in pot with a little almond or coconut milk, then add cinnamon, banana, macadamia nuts and maple syrup,’ she said.

‘Or, if you’re super time poor you can just add a little boiling water, and throw in cinnamon and nuts… It’s a two minute prep meal!’.

PROTEIN SORTED

With a degree in Health Science, Lola understands the food groups that we need to include in our diet for optimal health.

The night before work Lola prepares hard boiled eggs for a quick hit of protein and as a snack she sprinkles them with paprika and pink salt.

Eggs isn’t where the protein ends though, as she also cooks up big bunches of protein-based meals such as curries, stir fries and soups.

The expert is a fan of a spaghetti Bolognese sauce, which she’ll pop onto zucchini pasta for a healthy, nutritious dish.

VEGGIES AT-THE-READY

Lola said that she also makes a large batch of steamed vegetables to last her three days.

She also eats vegetables throughout the day, by making her five a day into a tasty snack.

‘I often do a veggie chip combo – mushrooms make surprisingly great chips. Kale works, too,’ the expert said.
