London landmarks burst with light to mark the arrival of Royal baby

Beaming parents Kate and William looked delighted as they showed off their third son to the world who was born weighing 8lbs 7oz on St George’s Day

A number of landmarks across London have lit up blue to mark the arrival of Kate and William’s third child who is fifth in line to the throne.

Tower Bridge and the Golden Jubilee Bridges are among the famous London spots that glowing blue to celebrate the occasion.

The London Eye has also been illuminated red, white and blue as people across the country rejoice at the news of the royal baby’s arrival.

And the capital’s BT Tower was emblazoned with the words ‘It’s a boy’ lit at the top, after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. 

Prince William yesterday revealed how Princess Charlotte and Prince George are ‘delighted’ at the arrival of their little brother who was born at 11.01am as he gave his first royal wave to an adoring public.

William joked that he didn’t keep world waiting for too long after she went into labour at around 6am before giving birth five hours later. 

 He said of the name of the new baby, who is now fifth in line to the throne: ‘You’ll find out soon!’ He also joked that he and Kate would have ‘Thrice worry now!’

Towards the end of the Royal baby’s first outing, the Duchess of Cambridge murmured to Prince William that she was worried about the baby getting cold before they headed back inside.

His older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were taken to meet him in their school uniform nearly six hours after Kate gave birth, but were not present as their parents emerged from the Lindo Wing. 

Kensington Palace said the baby was born at 11am, after Kate was taken by car to the Lindo Wing just before 6am.

The Duchess of Cambridge left St Mary’s Hospital yesterday evening, the palace said, adding that George and Charlotte returned to Kensington Palace after meeting their new brother.

Prince William unbuckled George from his car outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, before he got out in his school uniform, then took Charlotte out of the car and she shyly waved to the cameras. 

He then led them to meet their new brother, who is Kate and the Duke of Edinburgh’s sixth great-grandchild. 

Bookmakers have reported a surge in bets on the name Arthur for the royal baby, who is fifth in line to the throne.
