Lorde sets tongues wagging with cryptic social media move

Lorde has mysteriously deleted all of her social media posts.

The pop star, 27, has wiped both her X (formerly Twitter) account and Instagram account of previous posts, with fans speculating the move indicates new music is incoming.

Fellow pop star Taylor Swift has been known to use a similar strategy when releasing a new album, and Lorde has also been posting cryptically of late.

While her social media might be looking like a ghost town, the New Zealand-born singer made sure to leave a tidbit about what she’s got planned in a new bio on Instagram.

‘THE THEMES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME— A RETURN TO INNOCENCE— THE MYSTERIES OF THE BLOOD— AN ITCH FOR THE TRANSCENDENTAL,’ she wrote on her profile.

It’s not the first cryptic message the singer has posted to her social media.

In June, the Royals hitmaker posted a series of mysterious photos to her Instagram seeming to tease the release of new music.

In the photos, Lorde wore a long black dress as she looked over a balcony.

The Kiwi singer then shared a second image of her spitting over the balcony before posting a close-up of her hand holding a tablet with the word ‘spit’ written on it.

Lorde also posted a photo of a jewellery dish, a poolside selfie and a blurred image from inside her home.

She wrote a short message, which read: ‘Use the existing tools wherever possible. If the tools do not exist you are spiritually obliged to create them.’

Fans couldn’t help but speculate her post was a teaser for the release of upcoming music.

‘So the lead single is called spit?’ one person questioned.

‘LORDE WHAT IS THIS PLEASE RELEASE AN ALBUM,’ another excited fan wrote while a third person commented: ‘Lorde’s new album is coming!’

The post was the only one on Lorde’s Instagram page at the time.

The Grammy Award-winning songwriter debuted two new tracks during her set at England’s Boardmasters Festival last year.

According to Vulture, the hitmaker played a pair of songs that were said to have been titled Silver Moon and Invisible Ink, although she later denied that those were the final names.

Although many fans suspected that Lorde was planning on releasing a new album, she took to her Instagram account at the time to express that she did not have a major project in the works.

She wrote: ‘This is not the start of anything out there, just want u to know there’s a light on inside me.’

When another fan commented that the hitmaker was trying to mislead her fanbase, she doubled down on her original denial.

‘I’m serious literally just decided to set these free from my laptop… but they’re not bad eh,’ she wrote.

Lorde’s most recently-released album Solar Power made its debut in August of 2021.
