A dozy foreign lorry driver had his vehicle taken off the motorway after police spotted him driving with twelve mini football scarves ‘restricting his view’.

The football-lover was pulled over by North West Motorway Police this morning on the M6 near Sandbach in Cheshire.

The French driver of the Spanish registered lorry, 48, was on his way to Dover when police noticed the scarves of different national teams hanging across the right-hand-side of the windscreen

Neil Anson of North West Motorway Police, said: ‘This is not indicative of all drivers or all foreign drivers. Interest was drawn to this vehicle as a result of the restricted view caused by the numerous and unnecessary accessories in the windscreen, which would add to the blind spot vulnerabilities.

‘The vehicle was stopped by the Regional Commercial Vehicle Unit which is a collaboration between Cheshire, Merseyside and Lancashire.’

The driver was slapped with a £500 fine after officers discovered he had breached rules for the amount of time driving without resting.

The lorry, which appears to be left-hand drive, was later towed away after an inspection of it by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency discovered defects in it.
