Love child of cricket legend Dean Jones, 12, sues his widow for leaving him out of batsman’s will

The 12-year-old love child of Australian cricket legend Dean Jones is suing his father’s grieving widow for excluding him from the batsman’s will. 

The legendary batsman died from a massive heart attack in the lobby of the Trident Hotel in Mumbai at the age of just 59 in September 2020. 

He left behind his wife of 30 years Jane, their two daughters Isabelle and Phoebe, and his son Koby Dean Hamilton he fathered with air hostess Kerri-Anne Hamilton. 

The 12-year-old has now moved to launch Supreme Court action against his father’s widow a year after the cricketer’s shock passing, the Herald Sun reports.

The value of Jones’ estate is ‘yet to be determined’, the documents have revealed. 

Koby’s mother struck up an affair with the married father-of-two when she was working at a golf day in the late 1990s and the pair began a nine-year affair. 

The former cricketer would regularly travel from Melbourne to Sydney to see her and the couple enjoyed overseas holidays together. 

But in early 2009, Ms Hamilton fell pregnant and by mid-2010 the affair was public, with sources close to the pair telling media outlets at the time the relationship had soured because she had asked Jones for child support payments. 

Ms Hamilton responded to the controversy by agreeing to be interviewed by several publications, during which she claimed he never told her about his marriage when they met and was the one who pursued the relationship.

Jones has previously stated he has supported both Kerri-Anne and her son Koby ‘more generously than was agreed’

She also revealed Jones did not meet their son until he was two, but from that point on he strived to be the best father to Koby. 

Jones also came out with a statement in which he revealed he had supported both Kerri-Anne and her son ‘generously’ over the years.  

‘Following an on-and-off relationship with a women (sic), a child was conceived and subsequently delivered,’ the batsmen said in a statement. 

‘I can also confirm I have supported the mother and child more generously than was agreed. At no stage have I not met my obligations.

‘My immediate aim is to seek the forgiveness and understanding of family.’

Ms Hamilton revealed to the Sydney Morning Herald in the wake of his father’s passing her young son told her: ‘It’s OK, Mum. I know my dad loved me.’

Jones had taken Koby on a virtual tour of the studio he was working in just two days before he died, as he commentated on the IPL T20 tournament in India alongside a host of other retired superstars of the game.

Jones was rushed to hospital but couldn’t be saved.

Alongside Koby, Jones leaves behind his daughter’s Augusta and Phoebe – who he had with his long-time wife Jane. 

Both young women shared heartbreaking tributes to their beloved father at the time, with Phoebe revealing she felt broken’ by the loss of her ‘hero’. 

‘I just keep staring at my phone waiting for him to call and tell me this is just a bad dream,’ she wrote in an Instagram post.

Augusta echoed her sister’s sentiments and said her father had been the ‘sweetest and most caring person you could ever meet’.

After Jones’ tragic death, Ms Hamilton also made several posts on social media as well as a throwback photo of Koby spending some quality time with his father.

Another shows the budding sports star reading a book on cricket tips from his famous dad. 

‘If you know my son you’ve probably heard him say, ‘do you know my dad is Dean Jones?’ Proud is an understatement!’ she wrote. 

‘He adores him and will no doubt live his life with a bat and ball his hand.’
