Lewis was said to have been ‘almost begging the operator to send help’ with his face ‘covered in blood’, while Caroline – who has now been replaced as Love Island host by Laura Whitmore – allegedly had two cuts to her wrist.

After being taken into custody, ITV host Caroline – whom the court heard was ‘manipulative’ towards Lewis and accused him of ruining her life – allegedly flipped over a table and had to be restrained on the ground by police.

Her boyfriend was allegedly left with ‘significant head injuries’, but the court heard that she wants to ‘spend time’ with him over the Christmas and New Year period.

Lewis posted a picture of himself kissing Caroline, hours after a judge said she was banned from contacting the tennis player and from attending his address – which left both with their head in their hands.

Just days before appearing in court Caroline announced that she would be stepping down as the host of Love Island, to avoid ‘detracting attention’ from the upcoming series.

Taking to Instagram Stories she penned on Tuesday 17th December: ‘There have been a significant number of media reports and allegations in regard to my personal life.

‘While matters were not as have been reported I am committed to co-operating with the appropriate authorities and I can’t comment further on these matters until the legal process is over.

‘However Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly. In order not to detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is stand down from Series 6.

‘I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.’
