Love Island Australia Afterparty: Abbie Chatfield suffers awkward fumbles during live hosting debut

Abbie Chatfield suffers a number of VERY awkward fumbles during her live hosting debut on Love Island Australia Afterparty… but she still gets rave reviews from viewers

Abbie Chatfield made a number of fumbles during her hosting debut on Love Island Australia Afterparty on Thursday night.

The former Bachelor star, 26, had the nerve-wracking task of hosting Channel Nine’s spin-off show live for the very first time in front of the nation – which undoubtedly led to a few teething problems.

Abbie first stumbled on her words during a discussion with season one stars Josh Moss and Amelia Marni, saying to the pair: ‘Josh and Amelia… Do you remember when you? Sorry. Josh and Amelia, when you first… wow.’

Teething problems: Abbie Chatfield made a couple of fumbles during her hosting debut on Love Island Afterparty – but despite the issues, viewers were full of praise for The Bachelor star’s presenting techniques

After a quick moment of silence, Abbie continued: ‘Let me just get the feelings out of me. I’m just so hyped up about it. I can’t find my words either now!’

After recovering well, she then went on a live video call with host Sophie Monk – who bizarrely said to Abbie: ‘I’ve been watching your show live – you could be the new Ellen DeGeneres!’

‘She got cancelled, Soph!’ Abbie replied, which was followed by seconds of awkward silence after Sophie couldn’t appear to hear the response.

Ever the professional, Abbie continued: ‘She had a good run though… So it’s a miracle the show is even happening now!’

Shortly afterwards, the video chat appeared to lag as the pair discussed the islander who was voted the nation’s favourite, Taku Chimwaza.

‘I know he smells good,’ Abbie said, to which Sophie said: ‘I think it changes so drastically’ – still answering an older question about which islander she likes the best.

‘The scent, or just who we like?’ Abbie replied to be met with another award silence, before Sophie said: ‘Say it again?’

Despite the sprinkle of mishaps, the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star received rave reviews from viewers, with some branding her ‘Queen Abbie’.
