Love Island winner Amber Davies says new series is ‘cut-throat’ and the cast ‘all look the same’

Love Island winner Amber Davies has said the cast of the 2021 series are more likely to get a fashion deal than find romance in the villa.

The 24-year-old, who won the 2017 series of the show with her now ex-boyfriend Kem Cetinay, said the islanders ‘all look the same’ and any new bombshell coming in have to ‘shine or leave’.

In an interview with The Sun, Amber said the show has become more ‘cut-throat’ with contestants ‘in and out’ of the villa ‘a lot quicker’ than previous years.

Career over love: Love Island winner Amber Davies has said the cast of the 2021 series are more likely to get a fashion deal than find romance in the villa

‘They’re far more likely to land a fashion deal than find love. I’ve seen criticism online, “Oh, she’s only in there for a fashion deal, he’s only in there to get a range with Boohoo”, but I just think, “Good on ya”,’ Amber said.

‘It’s probably much more likely than a relationship, to be honest. The truth is now they all look the same, and social media has caused that in recent years.

‘There is a certain look people think they have to meet, and a way the boys think they have to dress, and girls think they have to dress. When I was on there was more variety.’

Amber said how the cast in her series ‘all looked different’ but now ‘everybody thinks they have to conform to a certain look’.

While the television personality has gone on to pursue a successful career in the West End, past Love Island stars have become millionaires from signing deals with fashion giants.

Earlier this year, Molly Mae-Hague, who starred in the 2019 series, reportedly landed a new £1million fashion deal with online clothing retailer PrettyLittleThing.

While 2018 contestant Zara McDermott admitted earlier this month she went on the show to boost her career rather than find love.

It comes as Love Island bosses are reportedly rushing to build Casa Amor in the hopes of spicing up the series.

This year producers of the show decided on a different location for Casa Amor, which has previously provided controversial story lines.

As a result, they are said to be rushing to add the finishing touches to the new venue and install all the necessary equipment for the show.

A source told The Sun: ‘Everyone is working around the clock to make sure it looks the part, but it’s just not quite ready yet.

‘As soon as it’s done, they’re going to have it on screen.’

Host Laura Whitmore recently addressed the speculation over Casa Amor, saying: ‘Casa Amor hasn’t happened yet, and that throws a massive spanner in the works. It’ll all change.

‘I will be there when s*** hits the fan. It is spicy, and we’re not even halfway. Casa Amor. I tells ya. We’re saving the extra chilli.’

Casa Amor sees the male and females split up for a number of episodes and sent to another villa.

Producers bring in a number of new Islanders of the opposite sex into the mix as a test of couples’ loyalties.

Love Island continues on ITV2 on Thursday at 9pm.
