Lucas Hernandez ‘agrees personal terms with PSG despite almost signing a new deal at Bayern Munich’

Lucas Hernandez ‘agrees personal terms with PSG despite almost signing an at Bayern Munich’ – as the French giants continue plans to revamp their squad after ‘triggering Manuel Ugarte’s £52m release clause’

Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez has  agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.

Hernandez had been in contract talks with the German side before PSG made signing him a priority, according to Foot Mercato, with the two parties now seemingly in agreement as per L’Equipe.

However, Bayern would now need to be convinced to let their star defender leave the club, which may prove no easy task even for the financial superpower that is the French champions.

The 27-year-old defender has only recently returned to training with the Bundesliga giants after an anterior cruciate ligament tear at the World Cup, but has quickly paused discussions over extending his stay with PSG reportedly interested.

The centre back – who won the World Cup with France in 2018 – is also capable of playing as a left back, and would being athleticism and versatility to a back line shrouded in uncertainty.

The immediate futures of Sergio Ramos and Presnel Kimpembe are unclear, and if both or even just one of the pair left this summer, Les Parisiens would be left thinly covered at centre half.

Hernandez is under contract until summer 2024 at Bayern, meaning that the club face an agonising wait to see if their star defender will depart for a cut-price fee this summer, or allow the German side to pitch an improved deal.

In fact, the 27-year-old had been due to do so, according to Foot Mercato, with a deal running up to 2027 on the table, with PSG now throwing a curve ball in those discussions and drawing the player’s eye.

The same reports suggest that the Marseille-born defender is increasingly keen on a move to Ligue 1, and that talks have accelerated between the two parties.

Hernandez has only made seven appearances in the Bundesliga this season, with his campaign halted in November after a knee injury in Qatar.

The player suffered an ACL rupture against Australia in Les Bleus’ tournament opener, and he was subsequently ruled out for the rest of his side’s title defence, which came to an agonising end in the final on penalties.

Hernandez is not the only player thought to be close to sealing an early move to the Parc des Princes, with Sporting’s Manuel Ugarte also seemingly set for a move.

The Uruguayan has drawn rave reviews this term, and the French giants are set to trigger his £52million release clause and beat Chelsea to the punch by offering a five-year deal, according to Lisbon-based newspaper Correio da Manha

With Bayern at risk of losing the German crown they have assumed for each of the past 10 seasons, it could be a double blow for the record Bundesliga winners this summer.

A stunning 3-1 defeat at home to RB Leipzig last time out handed the lead in the title race to Borussia Dortmund, spearheaded by England star Jude Bellingham.

Die Roten must now beat Koln on the final day of the campaign and hope that Dortmund once again fluff their lines against Mainz, with all three points enough to guarantee the leaders the title.

Since Thomas Tuchel inherited the reins from Julian Nagelsmann, he has been quick to outline a number of transfer targets as he bids to rebuild the squad and reassert their dominance in Germany.

Bayern are thought to be keen on signing Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez and Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot if they are unable to lure Arsenal target Declan Rice and England captain Harry Kane to Bavaria.
