Lucas Moura is ‘in talks over a move back to his boyhood club Sao Paulo’, having fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham.

The Brazilian has started just twice this term but has also been ruled out for two months of the campaign with a calf injury.

According to Brazilian publication LANCE, Moura is interested in returning to Sao Paulo, but it remains to be seen if a deal will be struck this January.

Spurs are pursuing a top four finish, so it is unlikely that they would allow the 30-year-old to leave without bringing in a replacement or having one lined up.

A forward line of Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Richarlison in rotation has been the preferred option for Conte, even with Moura fit.

Moura first made a name for himself at the Brazilian club having developed there as a 13-year-old prospect.

He went on to deliver 22 goals and 19 assists in 86 appearances in two seasons for the first team having moved up from the academy.

His talents were spotted by PSG and he joined the French side for five years before moving to north London.

Moura has been a reliable contributor to Spurs since signing in 2018, with the high point of his career the goal against Ajax.

He latched on to a Dele Alli pass and scored the third goal of his hat-trick on the night to beat the Dutch side 3-2 and send them through to the Champions League final, where they lost to Liverpool.

Moura has 38 goals and 27 assists in 213 games for Tottenham and would be fondly remembered if he moves on this transfer window.
