Lucky Charms UNICORN marshmallow to replace the hourglass

Lucky Charms has officially replaced the iconic hourglass marshmallow in their cereal with a unicorn and people are completely divided.

For the first time in ten years, the popular General Mills cereal will be adding a new marshmallow into the mix and the unicorn will join seven other classic charms – hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers, blue moons, rainbows and red balloons.

While some are annoyed that the hourglass had to go in order to make room for the new shape, most people are ecstatic over the news that the beloved cereal brand is adding a new marshmallow unicorn and are taking to Twitter to share the news.

The new unicorn charm is a cute little white animal with a pink and blue horn on top of it’s head and matching colored hair in the back.

Each charm in the cereal always has some sort of special meaning and this time, the unicorn represents a world of magic as Josh DeWitt, marketing manager of Lucky Charms, shared in a statement on Tuesday.

‘Our goal is to not only create a cereal that families and cereal fans will love and enjoy, but to inspire magical possibilities and help spark imagination and fun no matter what the age.’

The unicorns have already started to make their way into some cereal boxes but they will officially start shipping out in March and will be available at most retail grocery stores across the US.

When the cereal brand announced the exciting news on Monday, people were ecstatic and took to Twitter to celebrate.

One user wrote, ‘Omg Lucky Charms is adding a unicorn marshmallow and I’m so excited,’ while one girl shared, ‘Everything is horrible but like at least lucky charms released a unicorn marshmallow.’

‘Anyway, Lucky Charms now has a UNICORN marshmallow, so they really ARE magically delicious!’ one user tweeted about the announcement.

Another pleased customer shared, ‘Forget having a bad day. They have made a unicorn lucky charms marshmallow! Everything is going to be fine.’

While most of the feedback about the new unicorn was positive, other people were absolutely appalled.

An annoyed fan of the hourglass wrote, ‘I just heard on the radio that Lucky Charms are getting rid of the hour glass marshmallow and adding a unicorn and I am not okay with that.’

In reply to the woman’s tweet, Lucky Charms replied to her saying, ‘Sometimes there can be too much of a good thing, so we had to swap them out!’

Another person also confused by the termination of the hourglass charm wrote, ‘I’m happy about the addition but why do you have to take away the hour glass?’

Lucky Charms similarly replied to this user, trying to keep everyone happy, ‘We can’t have too much of a good thing! Gotta keep it special!’

Just last week General Mills announced it was replacing the orange and yellow marshmallow charm with a different shape, although they didn’t specify which one.

A General Mills spokesperson explained why they had to say goodbye to the decade-old charm, ‘The hourglass has been a part of Lucky Charms since 2008, but as with any hourglass, its time is up.’
