Mastermind sporting director Luis Campos, the man behind the rise of Monaco and the rejuvenation of Lille, has opened the door on the possibility of joining Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.

Campos and Mourinho are known to be close friends, and have a deep admiration for each other due to their respective achievements in football.

Earlier in the year the pair were pictured together in the stands at a Lille game, where Campos currently holds the post of sporting director, and could soon be about to work together in a professional capacity.

Speaking in October, Campos said: ‘Mourinho is like a brother to me,’ as report Sky Sports.

‘I know him very well and for a long time. He’s a wonderful person and the best coach in the world. So, of course, if he called me I would speak.’

Mourinho was rapidly unveiled as manager of Tottenham on Wednesday morning, less than 12 hours after the confirmed sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.

Wholesale changes are expected to be made at Spurs, as chairman Daniel Levy bids to retain the club’s recent status as one of European football’s elite clubs.

Campos also said he believes ‘every club needs a sporting director’ and has previously discussed the problems Manchester United have suffered without one, both during and after Mourinho’s time at Old Trafford.

The 55-year-old said: ‘In my opinion – football needs someone like Jose. Football needs this special coach with this energy and strong personality. I believe the next work of Jose will be his top work.’

Campos is responsible for Lille’s rise in France, helping the club once again become a big player in Ligue 1 and achieve Champions League qualification.

An astute businessman as well as a football thinker, Campos made a name for himself across Europe after both sourcing and selling £500million worth of talent during his previous role at Monaco.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy were sold for huge profit by Campos in the Principality in recent years, while before them came big transfers for Anthony Martial and James Rodriguez.

During the summer just gone, Campos was also responsible for sealing a record deal with Arsenal for the £70m transfer of Nicolas Pepe from Lille.

Mourinho has already brought in two coaches from Lille – Joao Sacramento as his assistant and Nuno Santos as goalkeeping coach, along with a whole new-look backroom staff.
