Jurgen Klopp has revealed Luis Diaz is back training with Liverpool amid the ongoing kidnapping situation with his family.

Diaz’s parents were snatched off the streets of their hometown in La Guajira region in Colombia by four armed men on motorcycles whilst buying watermelons at a gas station on Saturday.

Whilst Diaz’s mother Cilenis Marulanda was freed later that night, Diaz Snr remains a hostage, with Colombia’s police and military forces working together in a bid to bring him home safely.

A large manhunt has been ongoing since and local authorities have put the blame on Colombia’s last remaining rebel group Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional (ELN), which translates as the National Liberation Army.

Diaz’s mother was left in a car by kidnappers as police closed in, but the gunmen dragged away his father.

Liverpool forward Diaz, 26, had remained in England after learning of the events on Saturday night.

He was not involved in Sunday’s win over Nottingham Forest or Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory against Bournemouth.

However, ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Luton, Reds boss Klopp confirmed the Colombian was back in training.

‘We have to see how he is, and go from there,’ he told his pre-match press conference.

‘Anything that gives us a little bit of hope is good, we are waiting for good news. It’s all about him, if he makes himself available or not.’

Meanwhile, reports broke earlier on Friday that Diaz’s father could be released today.

A report from Colombian publication Semana have claimed that it is expected the group – considered to be terrorists by the US and European Union – will release him in the next few hours.

ELN representative Juan Carlos Carlos Cuellar told a community meeting that he will be ‘released as soon as possible’.
