Lukaku ‘rules out Chelsea return’ next summer just three months into Inter Milan loan deal

Romelu Lukaku ‘rules out Chelsea return’ just three months into Inter Milan stint as bosses of the Serie A giants ‘plot loan extension’ for £100m striker

  • Romelu Lukaku reportedly has no plans to return to Stamford Bridge next season
  • Inter Milan chiefs are already eyeing up a loan extension for the Belgian striker
  • Lukaku’s return has been hampered by injury and has missed their last six games
  • Premier League trio are tracking Inter’s high-rated defender Alessandro Bastoni

Romelu Lukaku is already looking to extend his stay at Inter Milan beyond this season following his disastrous return to Chelsea.

The Belgium international returned to the San Siro on a season-long loan from Chelsea this summer and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the striker has no immediate plans to return to Stamford Bridge.

Club officials at the Serie A club are believed to be planning a renewal of his loan deal so that the 29-year-old extends his stay in Milan until the end of the 2023–24 season.

Inter swooped for Lukaku in 2019 after a frustrating spell at Manchester United. The Belgian quickly struck up a superb partnership with Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez and the pair helped fire Inter to their Serie A title in 2021 – their first for 11 years.

Lukaku’s £100m move to Chelsea in 2021 did not go to plan after failing to replicate the form he showed in Serie A and was subsequently banished to the bench by former boss Thomas Tuchel.

The striker appeared to have found his mojo again and scored two-minutes into his second debut for Inter against Lecce on the opening day of the season.

But injury has forced Lukaku to miss Inter’s last six games which has culminated in the 2021 Scudetto winners languishing in seventh place in the table – five-points adrift of leader’s Napoli.

Meanwhile, Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni is attracting interest from Manchester United and Manchester City with former Inter boss Antonio Conte also tracking the 23-year-old ahead of a potential switch to Tottenham.

La Gazzetta say the Italian could be available for around £50million.

Bastoni has become a mainstay for Simone Inzaghi’s side and earned himself a call up to the Italy national team where he has earned 15 caps.
