Manchester United left back Luke Shaw took part in an England team training session on Monday.

This was the first time that Shaw had trained with his international team-mates this summer, after he reported to Euro 2024 with a hamstring injury.

That injury had kept Shaw out of action for his club side since February and Gareth Southgate’s decision to call him up after four months without match action took many people by surprise.

Shaw had previously been working out alone since arriving in Germany but all 26 members of Southgate’s squad trained together on the eve of their Group C showdown against Slovenia.

Twenty-eight-year-old Shaw – who has 31 senior international caps to his name – is the only specialist left back in England’s squad.

Newcastle right back Kieran Trippier started in the No 3 role in England’s games against Serbia and Denmark.
