A ‘lunatic’ is lucky to be alive after he jumped on the tracks at a Sydney station as a train roared past.

The heart-stopping stunt was captured on CCTV and shows the man walking in front of an oncoming train.

NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance told 9 News he hopes to increase penalties after watching the shocking footage.

 

A ‘lunatic’ is lucky to be alive after he jumped on the tracks at Sydney’s Banksia station as a train roared past metres from him 

‘His legs, quite literally, are about to get smashed by that train,’ Mr Constance told said.

‘You’ve got idiots putting their own lives at risk. Imagine how the poor train driver felt seeing that lunatic run across the tracks.

‘I’m going to have a look at it (penalties) and work with the Attorney General.’

The incident occurred at Banksia station in Sydney’s south.

The man, who is wearing a shoulder bag, is seen casually approaching the platform.

He then jumps onto the tracks as a train approaches to the right.

He manages to pull himself off the tracks just as the train comes roaring past.
