Luxury bunkers designed for the rich and famous

Money may not buy happiness but it could allow you to live in luxury throughout a nuclear apocalypse, according to a growing number of bunker-building companies. 

The super-wealthy now demand lavish, reinforced hiding places where they can entertain themselves in comfortable bunkers with billiard rooms, cinemas and bars throughout Armaggeddon. 

In yet another sign of the widening gap between rich and poor, as millions of Britons struggle to afford basic housing, the super-rich can now worry less about environmental catastrophes or species-threatening pandemics.

Demand for luxury bunkers in soaring, according to American based company Atlas Survival Shelters, which predicts that it will build about 1,000 in the next 12 months.

And Britain is to become its largest market in Europe, with ten bunkers due to be built here next year.

The company also claims that it has already built shelters selling at £150,000 for ‘A-listers from the UK’ in Hollywood, The Times reports. 

All Atlas bunkers include a Swiss-made anti-nuclear, biological and chemical air filtration system and prices start at £15,000.

‘Not having a bunker is a bit like not having car insurance,’ Atlas founder Ron Hubbard, told The Times.

‘It’s irresponsible in a world where people want to kill you just for being an infidel and are trying to get hold of plutonium.’

Other companies are building communities in former missiles silos and old munitions stores with screens for windows that project bucolic scenes outside and feature indoor hydroponic gardens, gyms and doctor surgeries.  

Company Vivos promises its products are the ‘ ultimate life assurance solution for a dangerous world’ – one of which is a bunker settlement stretching across 9,000 acres In South Dakota, which sell from $25,000 (£19042.62).

While Survival Condo offers various bunkers to suit different budgets – ranging from penthouses to half-floor units in a high-security custom complex.

And designers have made sure that there is adequate in-house entertainment so that survivors can while away their days binge-watching watching movies and TV
